
Plateau state Governor, Rt Hon.Simon Bako Lalong hosted media practitioners and journalist on May 29th, at the old government house Rayfield Jos, Plateau state to mark the second year anniversary of the Rescue administration and the 2017 democracy day.
In the spirit of celebration, Governor Lalong, granted one Mr. Emmanuel John an unconditional release from prison, while five (5) others had their death sentence reduced to life sentence, Namely; Sunday Silvanus, Everistus C Mose, Bitrus Gwapil, Ibrahim Jahiya and Rabo Zubairu.
A report read by the Attorney General of Plateau State at the Parley said, 46 applications were received by the Council of the State on Prerogative of Mercy but, only six (6) scaled through. He said some of the forty (40) applicants whose applications did not succeed was because, “either their cases were still pending in Court or that they were just sentenced last year”.
The instrument for the release Mr. Emmanuel and the substitution of the death punishment to life imprisonment of the five (5), was signed by Governor Lalong on 26th May, 2017.
Section 212 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) empowers a governor of a state to grant any person concerned with or convicted of any offence created by any law of a state pardon.
The Governor further assured the media of his administration’s determination to develop the state economy and to sustain the peace on the Plateau
