Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has arrived in the United States to attend the wedding ceremony of his nephew and internationally renowned singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
The couple, Davido and Chioma Avril Rowland, are set to hold their white wedding in Miami, Florida, later this August.
Governor Adeleke’s trip, however, sparked criticism from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, which accused him of leaving the country without formally handing over power to his deputy.
In response, the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, issued a statement on Tuesday, August 5, clarifying the purpose of the trip and addressing the concerns raised by the opposition.
“Governor Adeleke left Nigeria for the United States via the family’s private jet a few days ago for the wedding of the global music icon, his beloved nephew, David Adeleke,” Rasheed confirmed.
He added that the governor had not embarked on any official vacation since assuming office in November 2022, and emphasized that the current trip would be brief.
“For this current trip, the Governor has again chosen to make it a short one to continually attend to crucial state functions,” the statement read.
Rasheed further noted that Governor Adeleke remains in regular contact with his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, who is overseeing the day-to-day running of the government in his absence.
In a lighter tone, Adeleke also extended an invitation to members of the opposition to join in the family celebration, either in person or virtually.
