Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), less than 24 hours before the party’s scheduled governorship primary election.
A resignation letter dated November 4, 2025, and made public on Monday, showed Adeleke cited the leadership crisis rocking the PDP as the reason for his exit. “Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect,” the governor wrote. He also thanked the party for the platform it provided for his election as senator and as governor.
Following Adeleke’s withdrawal, the PDP Chairman in Osun State, Sunday Bisi, announced that the primary election earlier slated for Tuesday would no longer hold, attributing the suspension to internal factional disputes. Bisi also confirmed that the governor was no longer interested in pursuing the party’s nomination.
Meanwhile, Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, disclosed on Tuesday that Governor Adeleke will officially join a new political party before December 13. Speaking on a political programme on Rave FM in Osogbo, Alimi said Adeleke’s resignation was the outcome of prolonged internal crises within the PDP. He urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting the governor as he prepares to announce his new political platform.
