The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned motorists and members of the public about fraudulent text messages claiming that recipients have committed new traffic offences.
The messages reportedly direct recipients to a fake website, “frscgov.top/ng,” which impersonates the digital identity of the FRSC.
FRSC spokesperson Osondu Ohaeri said the website has no connection with the Corps and warned that the scam could be used to obtain sensitive information, including passwords, bank details, driver’s licence information and vehicle registration details.
The Corps urged motorists not to click on suspicious links or make payments through unsolicited messages. Instead, members of the public were advised to verify any alleged traffic offence through the FRSC’s official channels.
FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed also urged Nigerians to adopt a “stop, verify, report” approach when dealing with messages purportedly from the agency.
The Corps said it is working with relevant law enforcement and cybersecurity authorities to track down those behind the fraudulent scheme.
