Jos, Nigeria — June 14, 2025 – It was a day of celebration and camaraderie at the historic Rayfield Golf Club as friends of Brigadier General GG Shipi (Rtd) organized a surprise birthday golf kitty in his honour. The event, held on Sunday, June 14, 2025, marked a belated celebration of General Shipi’s 59th birthday, which fell on May 22.
The golf kitty took place at the Rayfield Golf Course, Nigeria’s oldest golf facility, established in 1913, and saw a gathering of golf enthusiasts, friends, and well-wishers.
General Shipi, who currently serves as the Special Adviser on Security and Coordinator of Operation Rainbow to the Plateau State Governor, is a known avid golfer and active member of the Rayfield Golf Club.
In his remarks, the celebrant expressed deep appreciation to God for the gift of life and thanked his friends for organizing the surprise event despite the official birthday having passed.
“I am truly humbled and grateful to be surrounded by friends and family who took out time to put this together,” he said. “Golf is a game that mirrors life—it exercises your body, mind, and spirit. It’s one you can play at any age, and I’m thankful for the journey so far.”
He also offered prayers for the full restoration of peace across Plateau State and acknowledged the unwavering support he has received in both his public and personal life.
The event featured a special presentation by the Captain of the Rayfield Golf Club, Engr Isaac Ige, who led members in honouring General Shipi. In a vote of thank, Col. Felix (Rtd), speaking on behalf of the celebrant’s friends, described General Shipi as a respected leader, fondly known as “The People’s General,” and wished him continued strength and many more years ahead.
The celebration concluded with the presentation of awards to outstanding players who participated in the golf kitty, capping off a memorable day at the club.
