At least 21 people have been killed in landslides across Nepal following days of heavy rainfall, with hundreds of disaster incidents recorded nationwide.
According to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, 272 disaster-related incidents were reported within 24 hours, including 97 landslides and 57 floods. Four people were also reported missing while 26 others sustained injuries.
The latest disaster comes about a month after devastating floods and landslides struck parts of Nepal, killing more than 1,250 people and leaving thousands missing, according to the United Nations.
Recent heavy rains have again caused significant damage, particularly in western Nepal. In Baglung, several people were killed in landslides while houses were washed away and dozens of families displaced.
Reports from Nepal’s western regions indicate that more than 1,400 people have been displaced by the latest floods and landslides, with hundreds of homes damaged or destroyed.
Rescue and relief operations are ongoing as authorities work to evacuate residents from vulnerable areas and restore access to communities affected by the disasters.
The latest rainfall has renewed concerns in a country still recovering from the catastrophic August floods, which destroyed thousands of homes and left thousands of people unaccounted for.
