A French couple has been arrested after sparking outrage for engaging in an indecent act on a public beach in Phuket.
The pair, identified by authorities as Halan and Nadia, both 24, were reportedly spotted on April 10 at Rayee Beach, where they were seen engaging in inappropriate behaviour in full view of other beachgoers.
Witnesses said the couple showed little regard for the presence of others, drawing attention from stunned passers-by. The incident, captured on video, quickly circulated online and triggered widespread criticism from locals.
Some residents expressed frustration over what they described as a growing trend of misconduct by foreign tourists, with calls for stricter enforcement of public decency laws.
Following the backlash, police launched a search and later tracked the couple to a hotel in the Kathu district, where they were arrested.
At the police station, the suspects reportedly admitted to their actions and were each fined 5,000 baht for committing an indecent act in public, in line with Thai law.
Authorities also confirmed that immigration officials have been notified, and further actions regarding their visas may be considered.
Police reiterated that such behaviour is illegal and punishable under Thai law, urging visitors to respect local customs and regulations.
