Former Nigerian senator, Shehu Sani, has raised concerns over the rising risks associated with exercising freedom of speech in the country, warning that citizens must now prepare for possible legal consequences when expressing their opinions publicly.
In a Facebook post shared recently, Sani advised Nigerians, particularly those active on social media, to always keep money aside for legal fees in case they are sued for their statements or posts.
He mentioned that even when a lawyer claims to be working for free, they end up asking for money for fuel or money to purchase of call credit.
