You smell like earth
With each morning husk
Resting on the canvas of noon
Of perspiration this truck drills
I watch you savour every drop of blood
Tasting every drop of a naira more.
You smell like earth
Locked in wishful illusions
Waiting for tomorrow’s exhaustion
I watch you break those knees
Letting out your pain in silent groans
Like dust you whirl
Like rain, you drop
Letting out heaves only I can hear
Like love you wake
Each morning, pushing through day
To put this morsel on my plate.
You reek of dirt
Of earth,
Of sweat
But the stench of you
Is nothing but perfume
The best formula yet Mixed.
