Four people have died after a mining pit collapsed at Tangur community in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, when troops of Sector 5, Operation Enduring Peace, responded to a report of a sand excavation pit collapse along a river line in the community.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the troops visited the scene and confirmed that four people had died in the incident.
The deceased were identified as Mallam Fahad Aliyu and three women whose identities had not been established at the time of the report. Their bodies were reportedly recovered by relatives for burial.
During preliminary inquiries, troops engaged the community leadership over the incident. The community leader reportedly said he was unaware of the mining activities taking place at the location.
Further investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the collapse and the extent of mining activities in the area.
Channels Television separately reported that a Bokkos youth leader confirmed the deaths, although the Plateau State Police Command said it had not received an official report of the incident at the time of its publication.
