At least four people have died following a stampede at Kofar Guga Quarters in Katsina State during the distribution of Ramadan alms.
The incident occurred on February 26, 2026, around 9:00 p.m., when a large crowd gathered at the residence of philanthropist Dahiru Usman Sarki for his annual charity exercise.
In a statement, the Katsina State Police Command spokesperson, Sadiq Abubakar Aliyu, said the Command received a distress call at the Central Police Station reporting that the gathering had become chaotic, leading to a stampede.
He explained that police operatives were swiftly deployed to restore order and support rescue operations. Victims who sustained injuries were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, but four later died from their injuries.
The Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished those receiving treatment a speedy recovery.
