Senator Bello Maitama Yusuf, a former minister and respected figure in Nigerian politics has passed away at the age of 76 following a brief illness.
Yusuf, a former Senator from 1999-2007, died in the early hours of Friday at his residence in Kano.
A family member, Alhaji Hussani Dalhatu, confirmed his death to newsmen.
He said the late Sardauna of Dutse’s funeral prayer would take place after Jumu’at prayer at the Emir of Kano’s palace.
Yusuf was born in Gwaram, Jigawa State, in 1947. He was Minister of Interior in 1981 and Minister of Commerce in 1982.
