The Bauchi State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of Jemimah Dutse, a former Zonal Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi South.
Dutse was found dead in a pool of blood inside her residence at Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, Bauchi metropolis, on Saturday, October 3, 2026. Police said her throat had allegedly been slit by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the incident was reported at about 2:07 p.m. by a 49-year-old resident of the area. Detectives from the ‘E’ Division subsequently visited the scene, documented their findings and evacuated the deceased’s body to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) for medical examination and autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet and thorough investigation aimed at establishing the circumstances surrounding Dutse’s death and identifying those responsible.
The police command expressed condolences to the deceased’s family, friends and political associates, assuring the public that efforts would be made to bring those responsible to justice. The motive for the killing and the identities of the suspected assailants had not been established as of the latest police update.
