Food Poisoning: Football Community Mourns Death of Ex-Royal Antwerp Striker Victor Udoh at 21

The football community has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of promising Nigerian footballer Victor Akaniyene Udoh, who reportedly died at the age of 21 after falling ill during a holiday visit to Nigeria.

According to reports, the former Royal Antwerp forward became critically ill and was rushed to hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

Udoh, born on October 18, 2004, in Akwa Ibom State, moved to Belgium in 2023 and quickly gained attention for his performances in Royal Antwerp’s youth team, earning promotion to the club’s first team.

The young striker also had spells with Southampton FC in England and Czech side SK Dynamo České Budějovice during his developing football career.

Reports indicated that Udoh had spent time with friends the night before his death and was found unresponsive the following morning.

While suspected food or drink poisoning has been linked to his sudden illness, authorities have yet to officially confirm the exact cause of death.

His passing has sparked grief among football fans, teammates and members of the sporting community, many of whom described him as a talented young player with a bright future ahead of him.
