The Federal Government has clarified that it has no immediate plans to implement the 5 percent Petroleum Products Tax recently introduced in new tax legislation.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed this at a press briefing on Tuesday in Abuja.
The clarification comes amid widespread public outrage over the tax, with organised labour threatening industrial action unless the policy is withdrawn.
Edun assured that while the provision exists in the legislation, its enforcement has been suspended for the time being.
