The Federal Government has announced the reopening of Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu today, following a closure for runway repairs.

The airport had been shut down on April 18 due to a significant rupture in the runway surface. Initially scheduled for completion by May 6, the repairs were finished ahead of time, allowing for the resumption of flight operations today.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed that the runway is now fully operational, ensuring the safety of all flights. FAAN also expressed its gratitude to the public for their patience during the closure and apologized for any inconvenience caused.

The reopening of the airport is set to restore vital air connectivity to the southeastern region of Nigeria, which had been temporarily disrupted.
