The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to mark the celebration of Eid ul Mawlid, commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
The Minister of Interior announced the holiday on Friday on behalf of the Federal Government, extending warm greetings to Muslims across Nigeria and those living abroad.
The minister urged Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect on the values associated with the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad, particularly compassion, humility and service to humanity.
He noted that these values are important to Nigeria at this time and encouraged all citizens, regardless of religious affiliation, to embrace them in their daily lives.
The minister also called on Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and stability across the country, stressing that the responsibility of building and preserving a united Nigeria rests on everyone.
He urged citizens to celebrate peacefully and respectfully while showing consideration for people of different faiths and backgrounds.
The Federal Government also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring peace and security across the country.
Consequently, workers in Nigeria will observe Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as a public holiday in celebration of Eid ul Mawlid.
