Father and Son Burnt to Death as Tricycle Catches Fire in Plateau Road Crash

A man and his son have been burnt to death in a road accident in the Sabon Barki area of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The tragic incident occurred at about 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, when a commercial bus reportedly collided with a tricycle, popularly known as Keke NAPEP, conveying a family returning from church.

The impact of the collision caused the tricycle to catch fire, trapping the father and his son inside.

According to eyewitness accounts, residents and passersby made desperate attempts to rescue the victims, but the intensity of the fire prevented them from reaching those trapped in the burning vehicle.

An eyewitness, Kefas Gyang, said he arrived at the scene shortly after the accident and found people crying and struggling to put out the fire.

He explained that he did not witness the collision itself but alleged that the driver of the bus fled the scene after the crash.

Three other people, including the deceased man’s wife, another child and the tricycle operator, sustained injuries. The man’s wife reportedly suffered a broken leg, while the injured victims were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Plateau State, Peter Longsan, confirmed the incident and said preliminary findings pointed to overspeeding and reckless driving as contributing factors.

The FRSC urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, avoid excessive speeding and exercise caution on the roads to prevent further loss of lives.
