The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has shared a total of N2.225 trillion as revenue to the Federal Government, states, and Local Government Councils for August 2025 — the highest monthly allocation ever recorded.
The figure represents an increase of N224.1 billion (11.2%) compared with the N2.001 trillion disbursed in July, according to a statement by Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.
The allocation was made during the FAAC meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja. It also marked the third consecutive month of growth in shared revenue.
Revenue Breakdown
The N2.225 trillion distributable revenue comprised:
- Statutory revenue: N1.478 trillion
- Value Added Tax (VAT): N672.903 billion
- Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL): N32.338 billion
- Exchange Difference: N41.284 billion
FAAC reported that gross revenue for August stood at N3.635 trillion. From this, N124.839 billion was deducted as the cost of collection, while N1.285 trillion was set aside for transfers, savings, refunds, and interventions.
From the statutory revenue of N1.478 trillion, the Federal Government received N684.462 billion, states received N347.168 billion, and local governments got N267.652 billion. Oil-producing states received N179.311 billion as 13 percent derivation revenue.
From VAT collections of N672.903 billion, the Federal Government got N100.935 billion, states received N336.452 billion, and local governments got N235.516 billion.
From EMTL revenue of N32.338 billion, the Federal Government received N4.851 billion, states N16.169 billion, and local governments N11.318 billion.
For the N41.284 billion exchange difference, the Federal Government received N19.799 billion, states N10.042 billion, local governments N7.742 billion, while N3.701 billion was allocated to oil-producing states as derivation.
Revenue Performance
While oil and gas royalties, VAT, and Common External Tariff (CET) levies recorded increases, receipts from Petroleum Profit Tax, Companies Income Tax, Import Duty, Excise Duty, and EMTL declined.
Despite a dip in gross statutory revenue — which fell to N2.838 trillion in August, down by N231.9 billion from July’s N3.070 trillion — the rise in VAT and royalties drove overall growth in distributable revenue.
