An early-morning explosion at a storage facility in Ilese Barracks, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, on Thursday, caused a fire that damaged part of the compound.

The blast occurred inside one of the storage buildings belonging to the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device Squadron.

According to Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, the fire was quickly contained by troops from the 12 Field Engineer Regiment in collaboration with the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service. No casualties were recorded.

“Structural damage was confined to the affected building and some stored materials,” Anele said, adding that a full investigation has begun to determine the cause and prevent a recurrence.

Residents have been urged to remain calm as the Nigerian Army works with relevant agencies to ensure safety in the area.
