The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, has resigned from office.
Agbebaku reportedly stepped down on Monday, August 17, 2026, following moves by some lawmakers to impeach him.
His resignation was confirmed by his media aide, Ivy Ebojele, who said further details surrounding the development would be made public.
In a brief statement shared on Monday, Ebojele announced:
“ASSEMBLY SPEAKER RT HON CHIEF BLESSING AGBEBAKU RESIGNS.”
The resignation comes amid reported political tensions within the Edo State House of Assembly, with lawmakers allegedly making moves to remove Agbebaku from the speakership.
