D’Tigress Players Finally Receive $100,000 Presidential Reward for AfroBasket Triumph

Players of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have received the naira equivalent of $100,000 each as part of the presidential reward promised following their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed that the payments were credited to the accounts of the players and team officials on September 9, 2026, with all beneficiaries confirming receipt of the funds.

Each member of the D’Tigress team received the equivalent of $100,000, while members of the technical and support team received $50,000 each.

The payment completes the cash component of the reward package approved by President Bola Tinubu after the team won a record fifth consecutive AfroBasket title and seventh overall in 2025.

The reward was part of a broader package announced for the team after their victory, which also included national honours and housing benefits for the players and officials.

D’Tigress secured the 2025 AfroBasket title after defeating Mali in the final, extending Nigeria’s dominance in the continental competition.

The National Sports Commission said the latest disbursement fulfilled the financial commitments made to the team following their historic achievement.

The development means the players have now received the promised cash reward more than a year after their AfroBasket triumph, bringing the financial component of the presidential reward to completion.
