The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned 27-year-old Innocent Chukwuemeka Onukwume, accusing him of using social media to call for the overthrow of President Bola Tinubu’s administration by a military coup.

The agency filed a six-count charge against Onukwume at the Federal High Court in Abuja under case number FHC/ABJ/CR/610/2025. The charges, submitted to the court on November 11 by A. M. Danalami on behalf of the DSS, allege that the defendant posted messages on his verified X account (@theagroman) in October 2025 calling for a coup and soliciting military assistance.

According to the charge sheet, some of the posts read: “A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigeria government and join the AES. That is all we need now.” Other alleged messages included appeals for military intervention and statements criticising the government and urging Nigerians to support a military “reset.”

The counts cite offences under Section 59(1) of the Criminal Code Act, Cap 77 (for allegedly causing fear and disturbing public peace), and Section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2024 (as amended), for using an electronic platform to publish messages that the prosecution says were meant to cause annoyance, danger, or needless anxiety against the federal government.

Onukwume is said to reside in Umusayo Layout, Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State. The matter remains before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
