In a dramatic turn of events, the Kanke Local Government Secretariat in Plateau State became a scene of commotion as the police intervened to remove the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) chairman and his supporters.
The Police who were said to be acting on the court’s ruling were seen sending the TIC chairman and his followers out of the secretatriat and where later spotted lingering around the secretariat premises for disregarding the mandatory order. Their presence raised concerns among the staff and officials who were rightfully awaiting the return of the rightful executive chairman.
Although the TIC chairman attempted to gain access to the executive chairman’s office, his efforts were in vain. Security measures were in place to prevent his entry, ensuring that the executive chairman’s office remained protected.
Further details about the incident and the implications of the TIC chairman’s actions are expected to emerge in the coming hours. The TIC chairman was said to be acting in contempt of a court order issued last week, which declared his appointment unlawful.

Early reports suggested that the Newly sworn-in Management Transition Committee Chairman of Kanke LGA, Hon Shikir Nuhu Caleb took over the administration of the council. Storming into the council Secretariat 9am on Wednesday 14th June 2023 at Kwal, the headquarters of the LGA in company of management Staff of the Council.
However, An eyewitnesses reported that the TIC chairman resorted to taking photographs around the local government facility, attempting to create an illusion of resuming work. However, his actions were quickly thwarted, and he was denied access to the offices at the local government secretariat.
Thereafter, before the situation could escalate further, the Nigerian police swiftly intervened. They arrived at the scene and effectively expelled the TIC chairman and his supporters from the local government secretariat. The police took decisive action to enforce the court order and maintain law and order within the premises.
With this development the Kanke Local Government Secretariat remains under lock and will now resume normal operations with the rightful executive chairman at the helm as he has demonstrated his commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensure that the proper functioning of local government administration is upheld, and any attempts to undermine the rule of law are swiftly addressed.
