Operatives of the Abia State Command of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested a 47-year-old man, identified as Chukwuemeka Nwaobilor, for allegedly possessing a voters’ registration machine belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The suspect was apprehended at a football field in Mbawsi, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of the state. The INEC registration machine was reportedly meant for voter registration in Isiala Ngwa South LGA.

Unconfirmed reports claimed that Nwaobilor, who is said to be an INEC staff member working in Isiala Ngwa South, may have been collaborating with unnamed politicians from the Isiala Ngwa North and South federal constituency.

Police sources said the arrest was carried out by personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Isiala Ngwa North Division, alongside the Divisional Officer and the Mayor of Isiala Ngwa LGA, following a tip-off.

Nwaobilor was taken to the Abia State Police Command Headquarters for further investigation.

When contacted, an INEC staff member in Abia State, Mr. Victor Abraham, confirmed the arrest but said the commission was still verifying the identity of the suspect.
