A young Nigerian woman, simply identified as Mercy, who had earlier cried out over her hardship in Libya, has safely returned to Nigeria.

Mercy went viral after sharing a distressing video in which she hinted at ending her life due to unbearable living conditions abroad. The video drew the attention of the Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who immediately intervened.

Through the efforts of NIDCOM and the leadership of the Nigerian community in Libya, Mercy was located and eventually repatriated. She was formally received in Nigeria by Dabiri-Erewa.

Speaking after her return, Mercy urged Nigerians not to embark on foreign journeys without proper planning.

“No matter the situation, don’t leave the country,” she cautioned.

She revealed that she had travelled in hopes of making money to care for her mother but could not remit as little as ₦5 home until her mother’s death.
