The Defence Headquarters has emphasized that serving in the Nigerian Military is “an honour,” following a public altercation between its officers and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The incident occurred in Abuja’s Gaduwa district, where Wike attempted to halt a building project on land allegedly linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff. According to the minister, the development lacked the required legal documentation.

Wike said he directed the builders to stop, but military officers, acting on higher orders, blocked him and his officials from enforcing the stop-work directive. During the confrontation, Wike reportedly told one officer to “shut up” and called him a fool, prompting the officer to respond: “I am not a fool and I will not shut up. I am acting on orders.”

In the hours following the clash, the Defence Headquarters posted a statement reminding Nigerians of the dignity and honour associated with serving in the armed forces, underscoring the commitment of military personnel to follow lawful instructions.
