The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced plans to deport 79 convicted Nigerians considered among its “worst-of-the-worst” criminal aliens.

According to findings on the DHS website on Monday, the individuals were convicted of offences including fraud, drug trafficking, assault, manslaughter, and robbery. The arrests were part of the United States’ intensified crackdown on criminal immigrants.

“The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is highlighting the worst of the worst criminal aliens arrested by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement,” the DHS note stated. “Under Secretary Noem’s leadership, the hardworking men and women of DHS and ICE are fulfilling President Trump’s promise and carrying out mass deportations, starting with the worst of the worst, including the illegal aliens you see here.”

The list of Nigerians includes Boluwaji Akingunsoye, Ejike Asiegbunam, Emmanuel Mayegun Adeola, Bamidele Bolatiwa, Ifeanyi Nwaozomudoh, Aderemi Akefe, Solomon Wilfred, Chibundu Anuebunwa, Joshua Ineh, Usman Momoh, Oluwole Odunowo, Bolarinwa Salau, Oriyomi Aloba, and several others.

Reports indicate that the Trump administration’s crackdown has prompted some Nigerians to go into hiding, while others are reportedly returning home quietly to avoid deportation under the intensified policy led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The policy forms part of broader U.S. efforts to remove criminal and illegal immigrants, with Nigerians among those significantly affected.
