A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced a housewife, Halima Haliru Umar, to 20 years imprisonment after she pleaded guilty to charges related to illegal possession of ammunition and providing support to terrorists.
Umar was convicted for possessing 302 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and transporting them to bandits operating in Plateau State.
The defendant was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, where operatives reportedly recovered the ammunition and the sum of N57,100 from her.
Investigations revealed that she allegedly obtained the ammunition from Zaria, Kaduna State, on the instruction of a man identified as Alhaji Sani.
Delivering judgment, Justice Hauwa Joseph Yilwa of the Federal High Court found her guilty on two counts bordering on terrorism financing and unlawful possession of firearms-related materials.
The conviction was secured under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, as well as the Firearms Act, 2004.
