A Magistrate Court sitting in Kano has ordered popular TikTok content creators, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, to marry within 60 days following their appearance in viral videos described by authorities as “indecent.”
The order, issued on Monday, October 20, 2025, by Magistrate Halima Wali, also directed the Kano State Hisbah Board to facilitate the marriage process. The court further instructed the Chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board to oversee the implementation of the directive.
Magistrate Wali warned that failure to conduct the marriage within the stipulated period would be regarded as contempt of court.
The ruling came after the pair were arraigned for allegedly producing and circulating videos deemed sexually suggestive and contrary to the moral and religious standards of the state. According to the Censorship Board, the videos violated state laws that prohibit the production and distribution of obscene content.
The clips, which went viral on social media, showed the duo engaging in romantic gestures. Authorities argued that the scenes undermined public decency.
Mai Wushirya was earlier remanded in a correctional facility after footage of him shirtless and performing what officials described as “immoral and demeaning acts” surfaced online. His co-creator, Yar Guda, was later interrogated by the board’s enforcement team before the case was brought before the court.
The unusual court order has since sparked debate across social media, with many questioning the legality and ethical implications of compelling two adults to marry as a form of punishment.
