Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail in the sum of N100 million to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, in a case involving alleged unauthorised access to a telephone conversation linked to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.

The court ruled that el-Rufai be released on strict conditions pending the determination of the case, which borders on alleged unlawful access to private communication.

Among the bail conditions, the court ordered that the surety must reside within Maitama or Asokoro districts of Abuja and must submit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property to the court registry.

The surety is also required to be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17, provide evidence of salary payments for at least three months, and present a bank-authenticated letter confirming such earnings.

Justice Abdulmalik further directed that the surety must depose to an affidavit of means, execute a bail bond, and submit a recent passport photograph to the court registry.

In addition, the defendant is required to deposit all valid international passports with the court as part of the bail conditions.

The court also ordered the submission of a verification letter from the surety’s immediate department, alongside a tax clearance certificate covering the last six months.

El-Rufai was further directed to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS) on the last Friday of every month by 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register until the case is concluded.

The judge warned that failure to comply with any of the bail conditions would result in automatic revocation of the bail.

The court also directed that a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council be submitted as part of the requirements.
