The
Plateau State Government today received donation of Personal Protective
Equipments (PPE) from the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association
(NVMA) Plateau State Chapter as contribution to the fight against
COVID-19. Leader of the delegation, Dr. Othniel said the donation
became imperative considering the risk health practitioners are exposed
to.
He urged the State Government to do what is necessary to prevent
the spread of the deadly disease while calling on the public to comply
to measures being put in place from time to time towards combating the
disease. He said government directives may be painful but are in the
best interest of the people at this critical time considering the global
confirm cases and deaths recorded from the virus. Speaking also, Dr.
Luke Pam the Chairman of Veterinary Research Officers, NVRI Vom, Plateau
State applauded government for its response to COVID-19 so far and
admonished government to continuously assess the situation from time to
time. Dr. Pam called on the government to look into making NVRI Vom a
Testing Centre for the Virus considering the huge human and laboratory
capacity in the Research Institute. He said the Institute has what it
takes to be a testing centre if supported. He urged the government to
take advantage of the capacity in the Institute to fight the COVID-19
Pandemic. Receiving the items, Secretary to the Government of the
State, Prof. Danladi Atu who is also the Coordinating Secretary of the
State COVID-18 Taskforce commended NVMA for the donation made and
promised to get the items to the appropriate quarters for usage when the
need arises. He spoke on government commitment to prevent the spread
of the virus. In Company of the SGS were the State Commissioner of
Information and Communication, Hon. Dan Manjang, Health Commisioner, Dr.
Nimkong Ndam, Director of Research and Documentation Govt House, Prof.
John Wade and Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Makut Simon
Macham.
