Tensions escalated on Tuesday at the National Assembly Complex as protesters clashed with police following the use of tear gas to disperse the crowd.
A video from the scene showed demonstrators fleeing from the fumes, shouting slogans such as, “They don shoot tear gas,” and “They shot it directly at the people.” Others were heard chanting, “We no go gree o,” expressing continued opposition to the delay in passing the electoral bill.
Some reporters covering the protests were also caught in the chaos as authorities attempted to control the gathering.
The demonstrations mark the second consecutive day that citizens have returned to the National Assembly, demanding the real-time transmission of election results from polling units to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s IREV portal.
