China has raised its tariffs on imports from the United States to 84 percent, up from the previous 34 percent, effective April 10.

The move comes in direct response to US President Donald Trump’s recent escalation of duties on Chinese goods, which nearly doubled and took effect on Wednesday. The development has caused a fresh wave of volatility in global financial markets.

China’s foreign ministry called on the US to stop its ‘arrogant and bullying behaviour’ after Trump’s 104% duties on Chinese imports took effect.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said the US continued to impose tariffs on China “indiscriminately”.
The spokesperson said that US should adopt an attitude of equality, respect and mutual benefit, if it really wants to solve the problem through dialogue and negotiation.
