CCTV Shop Blast Claims One Life, Four Others Hospitalised in Lagos

One of the victims injured in an explosion at a CCTV dealer’s shop on Kodesho Street, near Computer Village in the Ikeja area of Lagos State, has died from his injuries.

The explosion, which occurred around 6:35 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, left five people injured. A source from the tech hub confirmed to Punch on Sunday that one of the victims succumbed to his injuries on Saturday evening.

“We lost one of them on Saturday evening. The doctors made efforts to save him, but he didn’t make it. They are currently battling to save the lives of others
,” the source said.

The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the incident occurred around 6:35 pm.

According to the PPRO, the scene was immediately cordoned off by operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, the Mobile Police Detachment, and other police teams to ensure public safety.

“The scene was swept by the EOD experts of the command to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate a comprehensive investigation to determine the actual cause of the explosion,” Hundeyin said

The Commissioner of Police, CP Owohunwa Adegoke, was also said to have visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment shortly after the incident.

Hundeyin added that the five individuals injured during the explosion were taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

He also confirmed the d3ath of the victim.

“Yes, we have been informed that one of them d!ed on Saturday,”
 he added.

When asked about the state of the investigation, the police image maker said, “The investigation is still on. We will make it public as soon as it is concluded.”
