The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has urged bank customers to safeguard their financial information by never sharing Personal Identification Numbers (PINs), passwords, or any other sensitive banking details.

The advisory, shared via the bank’s official 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account, was issued as part of activities marking Global Money Week 2026. The CBN highlighted the growing cases of fraud and scams targeting unsuspecting banking customers.

“Protect your money by protecting your information. Your PINs, passwords, and banking details should never be shared with anyone, not even someone claiming to be from your bank. Stay alert. Stay safe,” the bank stated, emphasizing that keeping financial information private remains a key measure against fraud.

The warning comes amid rising incidents where fraudsters impersonate bank officials through calls, messages, emails, or social media to gain unauthorized access to accounts. Financial experts note that such scams are increasingly sophisticated, making public awareness crucial in preventing financial loss.

Global Money Week is observed internationally to promote financial literacy, responsible money management, and consumer protection. In Nigeria, the campaign focuses on educating individuals, particularly young people, on safe financial practices and empowering them to make informed financial decisions.
