The Central Bank of Nigeria has expressed optimism that the benefits of the country’s recent macroeconomic improvements will soon begin to reach households and ordinary Nigerians.
The CBN disclosed this through the Managing Director of Union Bank, Yetunde Oni, who represented the Bankers’ Committee at the launch of the 2026 Bankers’ Games in Lagos.
According to the CBN, recent improvements in key economic indicators have created a stronger foundation for directing more capital towards productive activities and ultimately improving the welfare of Nigerians.
The development comes amid signs of improved economic performance, including stronger gross domestic product growth and a moderation in inflation. Nigeria’s economy grew by 4.43 per cent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, according to figures cited by the CBN.
The central bank said the focus must now shift towards ensuring that macroeconomic stability translates into tangible benefits for households, businesses and other participants in the economy.
It stressed the importance of directing available capital towards productive sectors capable of supporting job creation, investment and sustainable economic growth.
The CBN’s position comes against the backdrop of ongoing economic reforms by the Federal Government and the monetary authority aimed at restoring stability, strengthening investor confidence and improving conditions for businesses.
While improved economic indicators are generally regarded as positive, the impact on households remains a key measure of whether the reforms are delivering meaningful relief to Nigerians.
The central bank therefore indicated that sustaining the gains recorded so far would be critical to ensuring that economic stability eventually translates into improved living standards and broader prosperity.
The latest assurance is expected to be closely watched by households and businesses, particularly as Nigerians continue to contend with high living costs and the broader effects of recent economic adjustments.
