Buhari announces intention to seek re-election

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday announced his intention to seek re-election in the 2019 presidential election.

 

This was disclosed by the President’s personal assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmed.

Ahmed made the disclosure via his Twitter handle .

The tweet reads, “President Muhammadu Buhari has just officially announced his intention to seek re-election in 2019″.

Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai also announced it via his
twitter handle some minutes ago.

This will be the first time President
Buhari will be publicly declaring his intention to run for a second term
in office.

According to Governor El-Rufai, he announced his intention to APC National Executive Committee members.

His media office, in a statement, said while addressing a closed-door
meeting of the national executive council of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) on Monday, Buahri gave the reason behind his decision.

“The
President said he was responding to the clamour by Nigerians to
re-contest in 2019, adding that he wanted to give NEC the honour of
notifying them first,”
Garba Shehu, his media assistant, said in the
terse statement.

Shortly before making the declaration, the
president presented a speech on the report submitted by the APC national
executive technical committee.
