Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been crowned the PFA Players’ Player of the Year for the 2025/26 season, while Manchester City forward Bunny Shaw won the women’s award for the second time.
Fernandes enjoyed an outstanding campaign, breaking the all-time Premier League assists record after registering 21 assists during the season, surpassing previous record holders Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
The 31-year-old Portugal international also scored nine goals as Manchester United recovered from a difficult start to finish third in the Premier League, securing a return to the UEFA Champions League under manager Michael Carrick.
Reacting to the award, Fernandes said he was proud to receive recognition from his fellow professionals.
“It is obviously a very proud moment. They are the ones you go on the pitch against and it’s probably not easy to vote for someone you play against, so it is a very good moment.”
Fernandes becomes Manchester United’s first PFA Players’ Player of the Year winner since Wayne Rooney in the 2009/10 season. The award also adds to his Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year honour, which he received in May.
Meanwhile, Manchester City striker Bunny Shaw claimed the PFA Women’s Players’ Player of the Year award for the second time.
The 29-year-old Jamaican previously won the award in the 2023/24 season and retained the honour after scoring 21 goals during the 2025/26 campaign.
Shaw also won her third consecutive Women’s Super League Golden Boot and helped Manchester City secure their first WSL title.
