Former Nigerian lawmaker, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, has called on citizens, particularly social media users, to refrain from criticizing the country’s leaders online.
Speaking at the 2024 Silverbird Man of the Year award ceremony, where Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji was honored, Murray-Bruce emphasized the importance of unity and national support over public criticism.
Addressing the audience, he said, “Those of you on social media, stop criticizing Nigeria online, stop criticizing our leaders online.”
His remarks have sparked debates on social media, with some agreeing on the need for constructive engagement while others insist that holding leaders accountable is crucial for democracy.
