Residents of Angwan Durun-Uwa in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State were thrown into panic on Thursday after the decomposing body of a beheaded woman was discovered inside a sack at a refuse dump in the community.
The identity of the deceased had not been established as of the time of filing this report.
Confirming the incident, a youth leader in Barkin Ladi, Danjuma Ibrahim, said he received a distress call at about 7:30 a.m. informing him that a body had been dumped at the refuse site.
“I received a call at about 7 a.m. that a beheaded body had been dumped inside a sack at the refuse dump in Angwan Durun-Uwa. We immediately alerted the police, who responded to the scene,” Ibrahim said.
According to him, the body had already begun decomposing before it was discovered, making it difficult to identify the victim.
He appealed to residents whose relatives had been reported missing to visit the police with relevant information that could assist in identifying the deceased.
Ibrahim also called on security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible for the killing and ensure they are brought to justice.
The remains were evacuated from the scene by security personnel, while police have commenced investigations to establish the identity of the victim and unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The discovery comes just days after another beheaded body was found on farmland within the University of Jos (UNIJOS), raising fresh concerns over violent crimes in Plateau State.
