Date – The Bauchi State Government officially confirmed the outbreak of diphtheria and yellow fever within the state, on Wednesday as reported by Daily Post.
Confirming the outbreak, the Executive Secretary, of Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BSPHCD), Dr Rilwabu Mohammed, said out of the 58 suspected cases, three returned positive, while two have died of the disease.
Diphtheria is an acute contagious bacterial disease causing inflammation of the mucous membrane and formation of false membrane in the throat, hindering breathing and swallowing.
Further information on the extent of the outbreak and the measures being taken to contain it is expected to be released by the health authorities soon.
