A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, Abdullahi Adamu Usman Danchina, has called for increased self-reliance, agricultural development and collective responsibility as pathways to sustainable growth.

Speaking during an interview at his residence, Danchina said Nigeria’s current economic realities—marked by inflation and declining purchasing power—demand a shift away from over-dependence on government toward individual and community-driven productivity.

He noted that many citizens have been forced into a cycle of survival due to economic hardship, stressing that meaningful development can only be achieved when people actively contribute to nation-building.

“No single individual can solve Nigeria’s problems. Our population is growing, yet we continue to manage resources with outdated systems. That approach is no longer sustainable,” he said.

Danchina identified agriculture as a critical but underutilized sector, lamenting that despite Nigeria’s vast arable land, poor planning and weak implementation have limited its potential. He pledged that, if elected, his administration would prioritize grassroots productivity by engaging youths in agriculture and reducing reliance on white-collar jobs.

On security, the aspirant linked rising insecurity to economic hardship and unemployment, calling for stronger community participation in safeguarding lives and property.

“Insecurity thrives when the economy is weak. Communities must take part in securing their environment while government strengthens its structures,” he stated.

He also emphasized the importance of accountability and integrity in governance, urging public office holders to uphold their oath of service and prioritize the collective good over personal interests.

Danchina warned against Nigeria’s increasing dependence on borrowing, describing it as unsustainable and risky for the country’s future.

“Continuous borrowing without clear repayment strategies risks mortgaging the nation’s future. We must build systems that generate internal revenue,” he added.

Addressing religious tensions, he stressed that faith should promote unity rather than division. “No one has the right to kill in the name of God. True religion should foster peaceful coexistence,” he said.

On the mining sector, Danchina noted that despite Nigeria’s rich mineral resources, illegal activities, poor regulation and lack of local processing have hindered its contribution to the economy. He called for stricter enforcement and value addition within the country.

He concluded by urging Nigerians to embrace unity, discipline and shared responsibility, noting that national development requires commitment and sacrifice from both leaders and citizens.
