A police officer has been killed and several goods stolen following an attack by bandits on Sayaya village in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Residents said the assailants stormed the community on Sunday, April 5, 2026, targeting a local police station where one officer was killed during the assault.

The attackers also reportedly vandalised a Primary Health Care Centre, razed vehicles, and looted shops, making away with wares and other valuables.
Eyewitnesses said the incident caused widespread panic, forcing many residents to flee as the gunmen operated for hours without immediate resistance.
They noted that the community was caught off guard, as such attacks had reduced following a peace agreement previously reached in the area.

Meanwhile, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda visited the affected community to assess the level of damage.
During the visit, he inspected the destroyed facilities and commiserated with residents over the losses recorded.

The governor also condoled with the Divisional Police Officer and personnel of the command over the death of their colleague, while extending sympathies to affected families.
He further directed the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to the area to forestall further attacks and restore normalcy.
