Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Galatasaray despite being offered the chance to secure his services for a reported fee of €75 million.
According to reports, intermediaries approached the Spanish club with a proposal for the transfer of the Super Eagles forward, who was said to be willing to accept a pay cut to play under Atletico manager Diego Simeone.
Despite Osimhen’s reported interest in the move, Atletico declined the offer, with reports indicating that the club currently lacks the financial capacity to complete a transfer of that magnitude during the ongoing transfer window.
The Madrid club are also understood to be satisfied with Argentine forward Julián Álvarez, who occupies the central attacking role in Simeone’s squad, making another high-profile striker unnecessary.
Osimhen, who is contracted to Galatasaray until 2029, reportedly earns a lucrative salary in Turkey, with his net income boosted by tax incentives available to foreign players.
His willingness to reduce his wages is said to reflect his desire to join Atletico and work under Simeone.
However, despite the Nigerian international’s interest, Atletico Madrid have reportedly remained firm in their decision not to pursue the transfer.
