Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has assured that the Yoruba people will be a priority in his governance and policymaking if elected President of Nigeria in 2027.
In a statement issued by his Media Consultant, Kola Johnson, Atiku dismissed concerns about ethnic domination under his leadership, stressing that there would be no Hausa/Fulani supremacy over the Yoruba or any other ethnic group.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain emphasized his strong personal ties to the Yoruba race, pointing to his marriage to Titi Atiku Abubakar, whom he described as “a jewel of inestimable value” from Ijesa, Osun State.
“It is for this reason that I count myself extremely lucky indeed to have had a wife from amongst this noble specie of the human race. By this token, the bond uniting me with the Yoruba is aptly like the genetic bond of a family. That is why the Yoruba, whether individually or collectively, have always occupied a special place in my heart,” he said.
Atiku further pledged that if given the mandate in 2027, Yoruba interests would be placed at the forefront of his administration’s agenda.
“Therefore, the fear that my ascension to the Presidency might lead to Hausa/Fulani domination over Yoruba or other ethnic groups does not arise. It is absolutely unfounded because the entire Yoruba stock are my larger extended family and in-laws,” he added.
