The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has resumed nationwide voter registration ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-West calling on young people in Ondo State to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The ruling party said the move was necessary to encourage greater youth participation in the country’s democratic process and ensure eligible citizens are prepared for the next general elections.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the APC South-West Youth Leader, Daramola Adesuyi, who described the PVC as an essential tool for civic participation.

“Beyond simply being a voting card, the PVC serves as a powerful instrument of civic engagement and a valid means of identification,” Adesuyi stated.

He noted that possession of a PVC remains compulsory for citizens who wish to vote during elections, stressing that mass voter participation is vital for a healthy democracy.

“The PVC’s primary purpose is to empower qualified citizens to participate in local and national elections. Regardless of political interest or eligibility, no citizen can vote without a PVC,” he added.

Adesuyi also urged APC youths, student leaders, party stakeholders, and youth groups across the South-West to mobilise eligible Nigerians for the third and final phase of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise.

According to him, the latest phase followed the successful completion of the second phase on April 17, 2026.

“All APC local government youth leaders, party leaders, important stakeholders, student leaders across campuses, youth groups, and aspirants at all levels are directed to mobilise members to fully participate in the exercise,” he said.

He explained that the registration exercise would also provide an opportunity for citizens who recently turned 18 to register, while those with lost or damaged voter cards could apply for replacements or transfer their registration to new locations.

INEC had earlier announced that the third and final phase of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise would commence on May 11, 2026, and run until July 10, 2026.

The Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, noting that the exercise would give more eligible Nigerians the opportunity to register ahead of the 2027 polls.
