An Appeal Committee established by All Progressives Congress (APC),
for Plateau State Congress has jettisoned the only petition challenging
the disqualification of Mr. Johnson Podar from contesting the State
chairmanship position of the party.
The committee also affirmed Letep Dabang as the state chairman of the party.
The Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Babatunde Monday who spoke with
journalists in Jos Wednesday, said that Hon. Podar had petitioned that
he was unlawfully disqualified from contesting the seat of state
chairman of the party, despite being a card carrying member of the
party.
However, Mr. Monday who led the three man appeal committee, said
their findings have shown that Podar is not a registered member of the
party.
“He did not fulfilled some of the conditions for him to be the chairman of the Party,” he said.
“The constitution specifically said your name must be registered at
the ward level and we look at it, his name was not found in the ward
register.”
He said Podar’s petition has failed, stressing that “as much as we are
concerned he is not qualified to contest in any position, he has no
case.”
He clarified that the election of Hon. Letep Dabang stands legitimate.
However, the petitioner Johnson Podar told journalists after his meeting
with the committee that he will raise up his case before the National
Secretariat of the Party.
“I am not satisfied with what the committee has done, so I will go to the National Secretariat of the Party, ” he said.
In his response the State Chairman, Hon. Dabang, said his confirmation by the Committee has shown hallmark of democracy.
He said: “For the committee to investigated and said they have not
found out that there was no case against me is a victory for democracy.
