The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has commenced a two-week vacation outside Nigeria following what the ruling party described as an exceptionally demanding and eventful first year of his tenure.
Yilwatda, who became national chairman in July 2025, will use the break to rest, recharge and reflect on the responsibilities ahead as the APC prepares for the 2027 general elections. The development was announced in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki.
According to the statement, Yilwatda’s first year in office has involved extensive consultations, travels, strategic engagements and meetings with governors, National Assembly members, state party structures, elected officials and other stakeholders.
The party said his tenure has so far witnessed the conduct of the APC National Convention, efforts to strengthen the party’s internal structures and primary elections at various levels ahead of the 2027 polls.
The APC stressed that the vacation should not be interpreted as a disengagement from party affairs. Rather, it said the break would provide the chairman an opportunity to step back from his day-to-day activities, reflect on the party’s next phase of development and sharpen his strategic thinking ahead of the elections.
Yilwatda is also expected to use the period to fine-tune preparations for an upcoming retreat of the APC National Working Committee. The retreat is expected to review the party’s progress, identify emerging challenges and develop strategies for the months leading to the 2027 electoral season.
The party maintained that the chairman’s temporary absence from Nigeria would not affect its operations, noting that the National Working Committee would continue to discharge its responsibilities in line with the APC constitution and established procedures.
Yilwatda is expected to return to Nigeria after the two-week vacation and resume his official engagements as the APC intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.
