An aspirant of the All Progressives Congress for the Share/Oke-Ode State Constituency seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Abdulrasheed Akogun, has attributed the growing number of aspirants seeking the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections to the leadership and popularity of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Akogun made the remarks on Monday after participating in the APC screening exercise for House of Assembly aspirants held in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
He praised the screening committee for what he described as a smooth, transparent, and credible process, expressing satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise.
According to him, the large number of politicians contesting for the APC ticket across the state reflects the confidence many stakeholders and political actors have in the ruling party in Kwara.
Akogun linked the development to Governor AbdulRazaq’s leadership, saying the governor has repositioned the APC as the dominant political force in the state and made the party attractive to aspiring politicians.
He disclosed that no fewer than 158 aspirants are currently competing for the APC tickets across the 24 state constituencies in Kwara ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The high number of aspirants seeking the party’s ticket shows the growing appeal of the APC. About 158 aspirants are bidding to fly the flag of the party in the 24 state constituencies available,” he said.
The aspirant, who previously served as Director of Media and Publicity for the AbdulRazaq Campaign Organisation during the 2019 governorship election, also expressed confidence in the APC’s chances in the 2027 polls.
He claimed the opposition in Kwara State had become politically weak, adding that any aspirant who secures the APC ticket already has a major advantage ahead of the general election.
Speaking on his ambition to represent the Share/Oke-Ode constituency, Akogun said his years of political involvement and grassroots engagement across the constituency had positioned him strongly ahead of the party primaries.
He expressed optimism that party stakeholders, members, and leaders would support his aspiration to emerge as the APC candidate for the constituency.
The APC has continued preparations for the 2027 general elections across different states, with party leaders expressing confidence in retaining political control in key states, including Kwara.
